Sarah & James Chapman's Wedding Day at The White Church & The Grand Hotel Lytham St Annes, 21st March 2009

It isn't easy creating fabulous flowers and offering our usual "Hands on" service for a wedding on Mother's Day Saturday, however Sarah, James and their lovely families made it a joy, I delivered the bouquets early on Saturday morning and then Jason looked after the Groom's party, all the decorations at The White Church and then all the table flowers at The Grand.

The very lovely Bridesmaid Elise was really thrilled with her dainty posy bouquet of Vendella & Avalanche Roses, tiny Ranunculas, fresh Lily of the Valley and Muscari, I put a touch of Golden detail within the flowers.

Sarah's spring wedding bouquet included, Miniature Tulips, Roses, Ranunculas, Forget Me Nots, Muscari, Lily of the Valley, Viburnum Opulus, Fresh Rosemary for Remebrance and some Eryngium Thistle together with lots of lovely fragrant eucalyptus.

The Niches in the porch were be-decked with fresh flower arrangements including some really fragrant Stocks, Eremurus and Roses.

The Groom James and his party were at Church bright and early, James' buttonhole was a lovely white Akito Rose with a sprig of fresh Lily of the Valley.











The pedestals inside Church were created from an array of glorious Spring blooms including White Prunus, Viburnum Opulus, Hydrangeas, Eremurus, Tulips, Polyganatum and Roses.

Elise looked simply beautiful in her bridesmaid's gown with a warm fur wrap.Sarah and her Dad Colin arrive at Church

Sarah was definitley having the time of her life.

Then to The Grand for the celebrations, Jason moved the Church Pedestals to The Grand and arranged them in the banqueting suite. The Grand Hotel is a superb venue for wedding receptions here's a link to their website The Grand

The top table design included some beautiful gold and cream Cymbidium Orchids. The Chairs were covered by Creative Cover Hire.

We put Goldfish Bowl designs on half the tables and tall Lily vases on the other half, all were stood on mirror plates and we sprinkled rose petals and diamante dew drops on the tables

We used Tulips & Fresh Prunus to encircle the bowl and in the centre a cluster of Orchids, Roses and Viburnum opulus were nestled in the ice like gel that covered the base of the bowl creating a lovely reflection in the mirror plate.

The tall lily vases were dominated by lovely stems of Molucella, Orchids and Solomon's Seal.

Sarah & James presented all of the Mum's at the wedding with a lovely bowl of Tete a Tete bulbs.

Hablando de Besos.

Resulta ser que últimamente no quiero un beso de la clase discutida hace poco. No tienen nada de malo los besos románticos, ojo. Acabo de reconocer que un beso de los cursis ha sido el mejor beso de mi vida. Pero a veces buscamos otra cosa. A veces no queremos un beso de niños menores de 20 que nos idolatran y que nos ven con cara de idiotas enamorados. A veces no queremos hombres de 25 que se tripean nuestra compañía solamente pero no terminan de hacer algo al respecto. A veces las llamadas de uno de 34 no son suficientes. A veces lo único que queremos es que nos peguen contra la pared. Que nos sabroseen bailando y que nos vean con cara de " o le meto o me muero."

Esta vez no me interesa la rosa, ni la nieve, ni Nueva York, ni las velas, ni las cursilerías. Quiero que alguien allá afuera se ponga un par de cojones y no se sienta intimidado por mí o por lo que digo. No quiero promesas de llamadas, ni mensajes posteriores. No quiero ni siquiera que me pidas el teléfono. Quiero silencios más incómodos que cama de acompañante en clínica. Coño. Pégame contra la pared. Hálame el pelo sin querer. Como el hombrecito que eres, dame el beso tú. Cuando no me lo espere y cuando al principio te diga que no, sigue intentando. O mejor todavía, clávame un beso y ya. Ve Mr. and Mrs. Smith o algo así. No me voy a romper si me halas fuerte. No me voy a poner a llorar si me halas el pelo a propósito tampoco. Quiero que nos consigamos después, intercambiar una mirada de complicidad por sabernos ese secreto, saludarnos y seguir nuestros respectivos caminos. ¿Es demasiado pedir?

Nigel Wilkinson Butcher Extrodinaire

I am always massively impressed by people who are truly good at what they do, people who are committed to giving exceptional service, delivering quality and value for money time and time again, Nigel Wilkinson is just such a person, I have a huge soft spot for butchers, my grandfather and uncle were both butchers and I spent a great deal of my childhood knee deep in wood shavings in very cold butchers shops, the smell, the cleanliness, the display of beautifully butchered meats still make me feel nostalgic.


Unfortunately for my Uncle a huge supermarket opened at the end of his street and sold pre-packed cheap meats, he struggled on for a while but inevitably lost his business and ended up behind the counter of the butchery department in the store that had put him out of business.


This is Nigel Wilkinson, his shop is in Holmefield Road, North Shore, he is a proper Butcher, he does butchery with a level of professionalism that is now sadly quite rare he should be a Fylde Coast Food Hero and he certainly is in my book.

Nigel has the most superb selection of locally produced meats and game, he knows how to butcher and prepare it for any random recipe I take into him, he always goes the extra mile and gives me excellent advice on timinigs, portions and oven temperatures.

Besides all of this he's also always there, morning noon and night like all of us that are self employed he's working his socks off to serve our community.

I do shop with him regularly so it was no surprise when the Land Lady Julie at Langtry's told me that she buys her beautiful sausages from Nigel.

Above and below are pictures of Nigel's right hand man Oliver, watching Oliver bone and roll my leg of lamb for today's lunch and then this lovely piece of beef is like watching a dance, he handles a knife elegantly and with precision, his sewing and tying is immaculate and fast, he is proud of his work and so he should be.

I always buy my meat from independantly owned butchers either Nigel or the lovely David Gigli in Wood Street, St Annes, we have businesses in both St Annes & Blckpool and I think it really is very important for all of us to support our local independent businesses, I could honestly say I don't have time but we were in Nigel's shop at the crack of dawn on Thursday morning, we'd done our shopping and were still in work before 9:00, it's just a question of making time to do things properly.

My lovely lamb has been marianading all morning and will be on the BBQ later, thanks to Nigel & Oliver for letting me take their pictures.
