How to Create a Dessert Table for Your Wedding

por | | 0 comments

Dessert tables are becoming more and more popular at weddings of every budget.   Creating a dessert buffet table for your wedding reception requires more than simply placing confections on a table.   To have maximum style and appeal, your dessert table should be well thought out.   Here are some ideas to inspire you to create a bountiful display:

Dessert Table Ideas
Jessica Davis Photography

  1. Choose beautiful table linens and interesting containers for an impressive display.   I absolutely love apothecary jars on dessert tables.   Select jars, cake stands, and other containers of varying heights for visual interest.

  2. Provide small “goodie” bags so that wedding guests can take treats home.

  3. Ensure that the appropriate serving utensils are in place for easy access to treats:   tongs, scoops, spatula, etc.

  4. Coordinate the dessert table with the style and color theme of other wedding décor.

  5. Arrange plates, forks, spoons, and napkins at one end of the table and place the desserts on the table in the order of your choice.

  6. Scatter flower petals around serving dishes for an elegant touch.   The petals can also act as a filler for sparse areas on the table.

  7. Add a personal touch with personalized labels or tags on goodie bags.   Chocolate bars with personalized wrappers in your wedding colors will also make an impressive presentation.

  8. By having a dessert table, you won’t need as large a wedding cake.   Also, many people don't like wedding cake and will appreciate an assortment of dessert items to choose from.   Ask your cake baker about providing desserts in addition to the wedding cake.   You may be able to obtain a discount for ordering multiple items.   If your budget is limited, ask culinary-skilled friends and family to present a favorite dessert.

  9. Dessert tables keep guests entertained as they generally mingle while selecting goodies from the table.

  10. Depending on your budget and wedding theme, here are some treats to consider:   petit fours, mini cheesecakes, fruit tarts, macaroons, pralines, mini pastries, cookies, cupcakes, candies, fresh fruit, truffles, jelly beans, taffy, caramel popcorn.

    Dessert Table Ideas

    Dessert Table Candy

  11. One of my favorite additions to a dessert table is a chocolate fountain.   Arrange dipping items (marshmallows, fruit, pretzels, cookies, graham crackers, etc.) and skewers on the table near the fountain.

  12. You may also choose to offer treats that are appropriate for the season in which you marry. Example: candy corn, taffy apples for a fall wedding.

  13. If your wedding will be culturally themed, offer a variety of desserts which represent your heritage.   You could also choose desserts based around a geographical theme:   Paris, Hawaii, etc.

  14. Remember that there is no hard and fast rule regarding the type of sweets that will grace your dessert table.   Your table should represent you so be as creative and whimsical as you like.

Ve Mr. and Mrs. Smith o algo así. No me voy a romper si me halas fuerte.

Richard & Judy Invitation to Read

por | | 0 comments

Richard & Judy Invitation to Read This is an interesting development Sally, Rebecca & I have been asked to read and review this book for The Richard & Judy Book Club, we're being filmed next Monday for what may be their very last show.

Weirdly it's quite hard to read a book to order, I easily read a book or infact, often two books a week but because I have to I'm really finding it difficult to get into, Rebecca has the 70 page rule if she hasn't got into it by then it's history, as of today both Rebecca and I were only at page 45 a bit odd as we were reading independently and had matched each others efforts page for page.

I'm really hoping it gets better... it may not make it as far as 70 pages!

If you're planning on giving it a read please remember to buy it from our favourite independent book shop Silverdell in Kirkham, at least if the book is dissapointing the ice cream won't be!

The other books I'm reading at the moment have been gifts from some of my gorgeous Flower Design Girls, Carol Drinkwaters The Olive Tree which is excellent and thoroughly enjoyable, and the exceptionally brilliant Miss Dahl's Voluptuous Delights by Sophie Dahl which is wonderful these diversions are probably preventing me from getting into The Senators Wife.

Bloody omaha was created by Colin Thornton, Neil Wilson and Steven Flynn who run the graphics company Compost Creative . www.Compostcreative.com Team Compost headed out to Omaha Beach for 4 days armed with a Z1 camera, a pop up greenscreen, some soldier uniforms and 2 rubber rifles (we couldnt afford 3), and begun the process of covering the beach (with camera on the cliff top), and re-enacting the veterans moving accounts. When back in London (and back in our real day job) we began to piece together all wed shot using adobe after effects, (and a little 3d modelling in maya) turning the 3 of us into the invading U.S. army. 6 Weeks later the work was completed and provides a moving insight to the U.S veterans memories of storming Omaha beach, for BBC 2's Timewatch: Bloody Omaha. Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

por | | 0 comments

Mike & Katie's day was quite simply beautiful, the ceremony and wedding breakfast were both hosted by Mitton Hall, in the Ribble Valley.

So our day began with showers of blessings or severe weather warnings depending on your point of view, not that the weather matters a jot if your celebrations are at Mitton Hall, the conservatory gives you an out door feel (Outdoor lighting for photos) and then the rest of the venue is just so special that there are a million and one places for photography all of them indoors.

So first stop Katie's bedroom to deliver her bridal bouquets, we are very lucky to know Katie and her mum Anne really well, besides them both being fabulous Flower Design clients we also did Anne' s wedding last year so it was lovely to work with them both again on Katie and Mike's wedding.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall Katie is stunning, and the most loveliest person, she has exceptional taste and gave me really clear direction but stWedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hallill allowed me to design flowers for her & Mike and of course Mitton Hall in my usual over enthusiastic and passionate way, thanks for trusting me Katie!.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall
The bedrooms are gorgeous too.

There is a choice of ceremony rooms at Mitton but tWedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton HallWedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hallhis very modern space was perfect for Mike & Katie, I made two huge LSA Column vases filled to overflowing with Poplar branches, trails of Jasmine, fresh Peonies, Emily & Rosalind Roses & fabulous raspberry Hydrangeas.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall The foliage I used was very lovely, Katie and I had discussed the choice of varieties and colour we wanted to avoid anything limey or vivid, so I chose some delicate blue grey shades including my all time favourite Hosta this variety is Blue Mouse Ears, Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea', Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' and some Meyeri Fern which is always a delight to use, it flows and bends beautifully.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton HallIn the conservatory I arranged tiny posies in glass vases, Peonies, Emily & Rosalind Roses & Fresh dill with tiny sprigs of "Champagne Grass" Panicum.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

On the registrars desk I also used small vases, some were in clear glass whilst others were in etched ruby glass.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

The room is huge but has cleverly placed pillars which make it feel quite cosy and intimate. The wide aisle is fabulous for big gowns.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

In the tiny nosegays I used fresh fragrant Sweet Peas, pink Jasmine, the David Austin rose Miranda (Ausimmon) is part of the second generation of David Austin's Roses.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

This rose is remarkable for the giant blooms made up of many wavy petals, perfectly arranged to form beautiful, almost flat rosettes. Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

The candelabras were both elegant and luscious, I arranged the flowers in a graceful form, with lots of interest and details like the raspberry pink Begonia Rex leaves and gentle mosses.Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall Veronica the registrar is an an old friend of ours and she has an uncanny knack of matching her own outfit with that of the wedding, last time we met at The Inn at Whitewell, she wore pale green to compliment the flowers, she conducts a lovey service too, properly sincere and dignified.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

For Bernard the groom’s father we’d made an Emily Rose Boutonnière

Barbara the Groom’s Mum was wearing a champagne coloured suit with navy trim on her hat, we individually designed a Mothers epaulette corsage to compliment the style colour and design of the outfit chosen, We included a Patience Rose, Crystal Blush Calla, & Gerbera Petals, finished with some navy ribbon.Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton HallWedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

Katie was given away by her brother and was attended by two of the most beautiful and talented bridesmaid's ever Hannah & Olivia.

Katie's Gown was in Champagne silk with exquisite butterfly beading designed by Jenny Packham.Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall From One & Only in Preston.

Hannah & Olivia provided a reading "The Owl & The Pussy Cat" and musical entertainment "Dream a little Dream" both so beautifully performed there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

The photographer for the day was the lovely Andrew Millard
he was a pleasure to work with and seemed to make everyone really relaxed, I can't wait to see his work.

The bouquet I made for Katie was heavenly lots of lovely pale and rose pink Peonies, fresh Lily of the Valley, Rosalind & Emily Peony Roses from David Austin, the style was open, honest and blousy, the stems were semi naked and bound with Champagne Silk and then tied up like ballet slippers.Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

Hannah & Olivia carried bouquets that complimented Katie's but we included tiny diamante studs in the hearts of one or two of the roses, the handles were bound with the same fabric as their gowns.

The girls did tell me that they'd been quite a few tines bridesmaids before but these were the very best bouquets they'd been given. Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Marvelous Mitton Hall

Title: At My Wedding Twitterring and Facebooking at the Altar

This was just done to be funny - we really don't Facebook THAT often :). A special thanks to Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, MD. If you are in the area and are looking for someplace with great community, children, and small group ministries check us out at http://mountainchiristian.org. I have a lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch. So when Tracy and I were engaged, most of my family found out via Facebook because we updated our statuses. I surprised not only my guests, but also Tracy by pulling out my phone and posting on Facebook and Twitter from the altar during out wedding. I had her phone ready in my pocket, so when she asked for it I could hand it to her. No one knew about this except the minister, and myself.
