Today we had a little trip up to The lake District to meet one my lovely brides at her wedding venue up in Kendal, I'll tell you more about that tomorrow.
We had a great trip, the weather was perfect, lots of country lanes lined with daffodils, rolling hills and superb countryside complete with spring lambs.
On the way back we stopped at a fantastic pub for lunch The Highwayman, we enjoyed delicious local produce, beef from a local farm with perfectly cooked veggies and then the most stupendous Apple Pie ever eaten, light sweet pastry packed full with flavoursome apples, on the side a hunk of Lancashire cheese and jugs of Carnation Milk & proper custard.
All the staff were lovely and there was a really warm cosy atmosphere, with roaring fires, we weren't expecting a treat, we just needed feeding, but we had a great experiencee, I love it when your expectations are greatly exceeded.

La luna se ve poco. Pero cuando se ve la muy coñoemadre hace que te acuerdes de noches mejores y la odias por eso. Y los grillos o las chicharras o lo que sea que suena en la noche. El silencio coñoemadre que nos aturde también. Te maravilla lo bella que es pero quisieras poder compartir esa belleza con los que ya no están.
Cuando eras chamín, te escondías debajo de las sábanas para que los mounstruos no te pudieran tocar. Ahora te escondes debajo de las sábanas para que no te oigan llorando de nuevo. Ahora, arroparse hasta la cabeza no te da la misma tranquilidad. He ahí el problema. Has llegado al punto de no querer dormir, porque sabes que te va a costar muchísimo lograrlo y que vas a tener pesadillas toda la noche. Sueñas con estirar el día, con hacerlo lo más largo posible. Sueñas con agotarte física y mentalmente para caer rendida de una vez y sin pensar en nada. Esto nunca funciona.

Jason and I dressed the stage the great people at Lowther Pavillion, mopped, set the lights and as the saying goes the stage was set....
Elaine from SilverDell, welcomed the huge audience that filled Lowther each member of the audience was given a signed copy of Julian's latest novel "Devil in Disguise", Sue from Silverdell was behind the scenes ensuring that all ran smoothly. Peter Taylor was first on stage, he thanked us all for our attendance, for our very much needed support of Lowther and then he introduced Julian...
Julian regaled us with tales of "Fanny the Wonder Dog", "The Joan Collins Fan Club", affairs at "Strictly Come Dancing" and so much more including reading some seriously entertaining excerts from his novel.
Peter Taylor did, as we all knew he would the most brilliant "Parkinson" impression ever seen, he was quite wonderful, utterly entertaining yet completely in charge, not easy with a guest as excellent if not just little tricky as Julian Clary, well done Peter, we were very proud of you.
Sue & Elaine do such a fabulous job of organising these literary extravaganzas and it's great that this sort of thing also helps to support local businesses and of course Lowther.
After the conversation Julian added messages to the signed books and had his picture taken with members of the audience, a great night was had by all.
