CHAN: Violence in Kenya isn't just claiming lives, but also hurting the nation's economy. One industry that's hard hit is the flower trade. Most flowers come from the town of Naivasha, where violence is rampant ahead of Valentine's Day. Here's a closer look on how the industry is affected. STORY: Chairman of the Lake Naivasha Growers Group (LNGG) Peter Szapary, says 30 percent of workers showed up at flower farms on Wednesday. Ethnic violence has gripped the region since Sunday. Over 40 people have been killed. Szapary says growers and aid workers plan to establish a safe camp for displaced laborers to encourage them to come back to work. [Peter Szapary, Chairman, LNGG]: "For sure the biggest foreign exchange earner is the horticulture and flowery culture industry... it must be in the interest of the country and of the government to really give security here otherwise the last big foreign exchange earner for the country will also be under threat." Earnings of about 676 million U.S. dollars are expected over the next six weeks. [Peter Szapary, Chairman, LNGG]: "Obviously, the biggest day in the flower world is the 14th of February which is Valentine's Day followed by a very big day in the UK market, which is a major market for the Kenyan industry, which is Mother's Day in the UK, which is in early March." With Kenya's tourism industry already in shambles and tea farms also hit by the post-election fighting, Szapary says every effort should be made to protect horticulture. Many of the 8,000 people displaced in Naivasha feel they have no future there and want to return to homelands in western Kenya.
This is our full on "Boudoir" Valentines window (Front window right hand side), the colours are sexy, bold and flirtatious, the black adds an element of Drama. This window looks seriously sensational when you turn into Park Road, but the best thing is that when you get up close there is so much detail you could look at it for hours and keep seeing different things.
I really like the variety of textures Jo's used the soft floaty feathers and the cold hard mirrors and metal elements, the velvet chairs and paper lanterns, delicate voile ribbons and black glass it's all so delicious!
